I am a finance professional with over 13 years of experience in various roles within finance and accounting.
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and a Master’s Degree in Financial Economics and Econometrics, I am also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K).
Expertise and Experience
Throughout my career, I have gained a wealth of experience in various roles, including Investment Management, Financial Accounting, Commercial Finance, FP&A, Business Controlling, and Financial Controlling. These experiences have helped me become more competent, adaptable, and knowledgeable in different areas of finance.
During my time at Unilever East & Southern Africa, I was responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial reports and also providing strategic financial insights to the business.
I led various implementations of SAP ERP and it’s related automations which significantly improved efficiency (cost + time) and reduced errors in the processing of financial information ultimately used to decision making.
My expertise in financial planning and analysis was further honed when I joined PE Fund backed Upfield East, Southern & South Africa as a Business Controller in charge of overall performance of the business.
Here, I led the finance team in developing and implementing financial plans and strategies to achieve business objectives while at the same time ensuring the highest levels of financial controls were being observed.
I was able to think strategically and communicate complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders, which was instrumental in driving healthy business performance.
In my more recent role as a Financial Controller at Upfield, I provided financial leadership and support to the organization’s African business units. I ensured that financial policies and procedures were implemented effectively, and I was responsible for overall financial planning, reporting and compliance.
What I Currently Do
I am a Senior Commercial Finance Manager in Sudan’s largest and most diversified conglomerate. The group operates across many business sectors including – Food and Beverages, Agriculture, Earthmoving, Real Estate, Energy, Mining, Automotive, Healthcare and Education – with each business playing a leading role in its field.
As a finance professional, I am a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and a problem solver. My exceptional leadership skills, strong financial acumen and exemplary work ethic, have made me a valuable asset to the companies I have worked for.
My career has been built on a foundation of hard work, dedication, and lifelong learning. My experiences in various roles have helped me become more competent and adaptable, and I am committed to serving as a role model for aspiring finance and economics professionals in Africa.
Hobbies
In my free time, I read, write, and travel (by road). I build performance cars because engines generally fascinate me. This fuels my passion for cars and road travel.
I also volunteer with several non-profit organizations and serve as a mentor to young professionals who aspire to have careers in finance and economics.
